68. West Looe to Polperro

6 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . We pack our bags and say a sad goodbye to Captain Blake’s Retreat then drive along the coast road back to Looe. The councils of Cornwall are generously offering free parking for this period – thank you very much. Parking up in West Looe we pop briefly over the river to purchase a sun hat in East Looe before following the coast path along the river bank. I’m guessing the west side of the town would be the favoured side to reside, much quieter and some lovely houses set back from the water front. The coast path, at first, [...]

67. Tregantle Fort to East Looe

10 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . How lucky are we? We’ve woken up to yet another cloud free and almost wind free spring day in Cornwall. Leaving our car at Tregantle Fort we venture in and across the firing ranges, keeping to the designated paths (but only permitted on days they are not firing). It looks a bit like a giant golf driving range with sets of numbers in the distance to aim at. Coming out of the firing range we head left, saying hello to young horned sheep as they stare at us, and over the golf course. We stop for a golfer to [...]

66. Cawsand to Captain Blakes Retreat / Tregantle Fort

8 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . From our little holiday home where, yet again, we wake up to views of clear blue skies over the English Channel, we wander back over the Rame headland to start todays walk from Cawsand, where we left off last night. Having checked out the place yesterday we are now quite early for lunch so purchase Cornish pasties for later and an ice cream for now, which we enjoy on Cawsand beach –bustling with holiday makers. The coast path takes us along a road behind a couple of sea facing dwellings high up above the beach. It leads to yet [...]

65. Plymouth to Cawsand, Kingsand

8 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . We’ve already walked several miles from Captain Blake’s Retreat across the Rame peninsula by the time we sit down for fish and chips at Rockfish Plymouth between the marina and the National Marine Aquarium. I practice the art of staring at the gulls to put them off pinching my lunch which works! Stopping to buy postcards (seriously) we meander from the Barbican below the imposing walls of the Citadel toward the Hoe. Rather than walking up to the Hoe we stay on the coast path to admire the Art Deco Lido, called Tinside Pool, built in 1935 and currently [...]

64. Wembury to Barbican, Plymouth

9 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . It’s been over six months since our stay in Newton Ferrers and the walk around the beautiful estuary of Noss Mayo. With much of that time “locked down” in leafy East Sussex it now feels somewhat of an escape and a bit of a culture shock to motor the few hundred miles to Devon. Arriving at 9 AM (yes, we did leave at 4 in the morning!) at the National Trust car park on Wembury beach we are too early for the café so backtrack along the coast path to Warren Point, start the Garmin and enjoy the view [...]
