Park at Butlins in Bognor Regis and call a taxi to take us back to Littlehampton. The very chatty taxi driver drops us at the other side of the River Arun near the golf club and we set off on the beach back towards Bognor Regis.
It’s a lovely stroll; the sea is quite a long way in so no sand to walk on but few groins so it’s a very straightforward walk with at first a grassy dune like nature reserve to the land side.
We see very few people along the way – a couple of fisherman and a man composing a giant painting. Soon there are houses along the coast to look at as we pass through Atherington, Climping and Elmer Sands. We find the deserted Climping Beach Cafe which serves a lovely warming hot chocolate.
At one point we have to walk a little inland to get round a headland, but it’s very pleasant walking along the quiet residential street then back onto a grassy walkway alongside some lovely houses by the sea.
The tent like structure of Butlins constantly draws us towards Bognor and the little train running along the seafront.
We hop in the car park and drove along to Pagham Harbour just in time to see the sun setting over the Harbour. We found the aptly named “Moonshine” and work out our way to enter the quaint little property. Wow it’s quirky interior swallowing up a railway carriage with three tiny little bedrooms and a massive living space is perfect. We sit outside enjoying our beers whilst watching the stars pop out as it gradually gets darker and colder.
