We leave our Lelant holiday home early this morning, depositing one car at the small National Trust car park beyond The Knavocks headland we drive back to the car park at Riviere Towans. After an enjoyable lunch of quiche, salad and St. Ives brownie/flap jack combo, whilst listening to the rain tip tapping on the roof, we head back toward the railway station. The narrow road, running alongside the railway line, which in turn runs alongside the river’s edge, takes us up river and around the estuary. Our eyes are held by the lovely homes with pretty gardens fronting the street. 3 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Our holiday cottage on Station Hill is just a short distance from Lelant Station. As with last night’s rail trip it’s a convoluted route. Heading first to St. Erth, to pick up holiday makers with their buckets and spades, then back through Lelant to Carbis Bay and St. Ives. Five dismount the train, Lola not so sure of the gap between the train and the platform. Despite the time of day and being a Sunday, the streets are busy with shoppers. After a cosy evening in our holiday cottage in Lelant, spent mostly trying to dry yesterday’s clothes, we are up early and heading to Zennor by soon after 9 o clock. We’ve been joined by Heather, Mark and Lola the cockerpoo for our holiday. Pop the pound coin in the honesty box at Zennor car park and make our way behind the Tinner’s Arms to the coast path. 6 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . We are in such a hurry to get back to Cornwall after a three-month break that we leave home at just gone four in the morning, arriving in Zennor at 10:30. There’s a two hour wait for a bus to Morvah to start todays walk so we are forced to go the MooMaids of Zennor café – shame. It’s a gorgeous little café set in a pretty garden – zillionaire shortbread and shipwreck ice cream for breakfast! 5 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . It’s always a sad day when you have to pack up your belongings from your holiday cottage, but when it’s been as nice as Brae Farm Cottage it’s especially sad. Say goodbye to our lovely hosts and drive the few miles to St. Just for a delicious breakfast at the Dog and Rabbit café. 5 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . It’s a fair hike re-tracing our steps from last night, past the cows grazing in the fields and the adders breeding in their long grass, to Gwynver Beach. The sea is as blue, the sand as smooth and clean but, being a Monday, is somewhat quieter than yesterday. It is going to be another sizzling hot day – we brought rain coats and fleeces and will be taking them back un-used, which is unheard for us holidaying in England. 8 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Thankfully a slightly easier walk than yesterday, but equally as long. Today we are reaching a massive milestone, hence I am carrying a special bottle in my back pack to celebrate. We start with a wander down the road from our holiday cottage to the Sennon Cove Camping and Caravanning site. The bus is running at Cornish time, but nevertheless arrives. Once again, we ride on the top deck, with the wind blowing my hair all over the place, Bridget Jones style, well almost! The bus weaves round the coast, stopping at Land’s End enroute to Porthcurno. An absolutely stunning, yet tough, coastal walk, the weather the best that July in England can offer, with few settlements yet bookended by amazing wildlife sightings. In fact, two of which are a first for me. We’ve stayed overnight in a farmhouse cottage call Brae Barn cottage, not far from Land’s End. We have certainly struck lucky with this Airbnb. We have a fun morning splashing and relaxing in the Jubilee Pool, which I highly recommend – well the geothermal pool, we weren’t tempted by the other much colder pool! Followed by a mooch around the little shops in Chapel Street - love the plant shop and cute little gift shop, we will return to spend money, but for now we are continuing our coast walk.
