18. Medmerry to West Wittering

5 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Wake up quite early in our holiday cottage in West Itchenor, where my husband, daughter and I have stayed the night - take a wander by myself down to the water’s edge, it's beautiful looking over Chichester harbour. My sister and brother-in-law arrive, we have a cuppa then drive towards East Wittering park in the RSPB car park at Medmerry nature reserve. Wander down the road towards the sea, passing a holiday park - abandon the others while Nigel and I walk along the beach to find the spot where we left off the walk last time.  Finding the [...]

17. Selsey Bill Lifeboat Station to Medmerry Nature Reserve

3 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . We're heading out for the next section of the coastal walk today.. have breakfast and tidy kitchen then hit the road.. it's becoming a bit of a long way to drive now, won't be long before we head up to the M25 and back down! The roads are hellish especially from Brighton onwards, but eventually park up in Selsey Bill. Wander back towards the lifeboat station then start walking in a clockwise direction.. the sun is shining and at there are only a few other people and their dogs wandering along in their new Christmas coats and jumpers! The [...]

16. Pagham Harbour to Selsey Bill Lifeboat Station

3 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Wake up in our little railway carriage on the beach. Enjoy breakfast and pack everything up before setting the house alarm and leaving. As it's such a lovely sunny day we decide to carry on the walk around the coast. It's over ten miles to drive round Pagham Harbour to Selsey. Park up at Church Norton and laugh to ourselves at a lady and gentleman both arriving at the same time in separate cars, imagining that they are having a secret rendezvous. Wander round a little bit of the harbour. It is rather muddy. We childishly throw stones into [...]

15. Bognor Regis to Pagham Harbour

7 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Wake pretty early to see the sun having just risen over the English Channel- wow! This has to be the best place to stay.. Enjoy rye bread, avocado, prosciutto and a poached egg with fresh orange juice for breakfast before driving back to Butlins car park to start the next leg of the journey round Britain. It's lovely walking along the promenade in the sunshine; there is a diddy little pier which we head down.. sadly for Nigel the gaps between the wooden planks are just a little wide and he has to take it slowly in case he [...]

14. Littlehampton to Bognor Regis

6 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Park at Butlins in Bognor Regis and call a taxi to take us back to Littlehampton. The very chatty taxi driver drops us at the other side of the River Arun near the golf club and we set off on the beach back towards Bognor Regis. It's a lovely stroll; the sea is quite a long way in so no sand to walk on but few groins so it's a very straightforward walk with at first a grassy dune like nature reserve to the land side. We see very few people along the way - a couple of fisherman [...]

13. Goring to Littlehampton

7 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Sadly the sun isn’t shining for our next walk along the coast, but off we go anyway to Littlehampton.  Catch the Coastrider bus back to Goring by Sea.. The roads are incredibly busy around here and it would have been a frustratingly long journey back had we not had the entertainment of our fellow bus passengers. We were seated in our favourite seats at the front of the top of the bus alongside a mother and son who were obviously locals. They didn't stop to catch their breath between conversations the whole way and we couldn't help but overhear. At [...]

12. Portslade to Goring

8 miles Miles walked since starting. . . The next stage of our walk starts in Portslade / Shoreham Harbour..  We drive along the road between the harbour and the sea which is fairly industrial and surprisingly find a little car park where people are parked to go on the beach and there's wcs and a little cafe!! We walk down towards the harbour entrance and along the harbour wall - the view looking back towards Brighton is incredible. The i360 is open at last and going up and down in the bright sunshine! We then drive a really long way right round the harbour which extends [...]

11. Hove to Portslade

1 Mile Miles walked since starting. . . After a scorching hot and manically busy day working in the visitor centre at Bedgebury I dash home, dive in the shower and we all head off to Brighton.. We drive to Hove, park up near a fish and chip shop and enjoy supper on the beach, we drop a couple of Pokémon Hunters near the pier before parking where we left off the walk several weeks ago. Nigel takes forever to get out of the car.. he then appears and says we have to go back as he's seen a famous person! I walked right past him and didn't [...]

10. Brighton Marina to Hove

4 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Park up at the marina (oh no only four hours free parking with no allowance to pay for longer!) and take our while trying to find the exit out to the sea.. It's busy busy because of the beautiful weather.. We meander down the beach towards the pier.. After a while we come across a beached whale - oh no it's a naked man lying on the beach and the three men standing near him looking out to see are also hanging free! It's the Brighton nudist beach - a tiny area flanked with signs giving dirty old men [...]

9. Newhaven to Brighton Marina

9 miles Miles walked since starting. . . We’ve spent the night at The Blanch Hotel in Brighton – breakfast was a very nice scrambled egg and smoked salmon in the delightfully decorated basement restaurant. Drive along to Newhaven Fort and try to find the pathway to the cliff A lovely lady at the Fort reception directs us back past the recreation ground and through the little bungalow park. Aided by the local neighbourhood watch we finally find a footpath between the plastic flamingos and twee little fences to the cliff edge walk - what a relief. Leaving Newhaven behind we look back to the sweeping Seaford [...]
