After a scorching hot and manically busy day working in the visitor centre at Bedgebury I dash home, dive in the shower and we all head off to Brighton..
We drive to Hove, park up near a fish and chip shop and enjoy supper on the beach, we drop a couple of Pokémon Hunters near the pier before parking where we left off the walk several weeks ago. Nigel takes forever to get out of the car.. he then appears and says we have to go back as he’s seen a famous person! I walked right past him and didn’t realise – it was Joe Wilkinson from 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown! He has obviously had a picnic on the beach and is waiting for a lift!! J
We then head westwards along the coast admiring the stunning sunset over the beach huts. The promenade is pretty deserted compared to the last time we walked to this spot. The beach huts along here are so colourful but all closed up – where is everyone on this glorious summers evening? Although despite the sweltering temperatures of the day time inland it is actually chilly down here.
We admire what looks like a new Martello tower which is doubling as a sailing club and a Pokémon poke stop! The prom runs out as Hove runs into Portslade, we follow the road which curves round some industrial buildings and then runs along between the industrial docks and the sea. On the first corner is the steel manufacturer – ArcelorMittal, a rather familiar name for a steel and mining company after they sponsored the famous tower on the Olympic park.
We follow for a while but I’m tired from working; my legs and back are aching and my daughter is weary from her glandular fever so we retrace our footsteps and have a drink in The View before collecting the Pokémon Hunters and returning home.
