2.5 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . After a rainy night under canvas, sharing a shower with a spider we enjoy a delicious full English breakfast in Lyme Regis. Chat to the nice lady in the tourist information who advises us it is safe to walk along the beach between Charmouth and Lyme Regis at low tide. Wow, wake up to appreciate another one of the amazing design features of the shepherd’s hut - the cut-out tree in the shutters above our bed creates a beautiful pattern on the wall when the sun shines! 3 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . Wake up in our little shepherd’s hut by the beach in West Bexington. First things first we put the bed back in the wall and reveal the table and seats for breakfast. Homemade granola, local yogurt, and homemade preserves provided by our host. 2.5 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . After near on a four-hour drive, we check into our shepherd’s hut in West Bexington before heading to West Bay to catch a cab back to Burton Bradstock. With the rain dripping on the windscreen, we nearly turn back to the comfort of our hut! Head up the hill behind the Hive Beach Cafe and along the path between the cliff top and the farmers’ fields enjoying the view of the little hamlets nestled in the rolling hills divided up by the straight lines of the dry stone walls. After a comfortable night and a big breakfast at the Ilchester Arms in Abbotsbury we head off up the hill to the little chapel before finding the coast path and the sea. The path joins at the very end of Chesil Beach where we admire the view back towards the Isle of Portland - the first part of the walk is mostly on the shingle and quite hard going. 11 Miles Miles walked since starting. . . After a four hour drive we check in at the Ilchester Arms, Abbotsbury, grab a pasty in a local cafe and catch a taxi back to Ferry Bridge. According to the cab driver the Ferry Bridge pub has been closed for many years, oh well, if I win the lottery.. Munching on our pasties we settle into a rhythm walking, not with the sea to our left, but hugging the edge of the Fleet Lagoon – the large stretch of brackish water between us and Chesil Beach.
